Call for Papers

Risk, Assessment and Decision-making

Child Care in Practice is a quarterly journal produced in Northern Ireland yet carrying papers and targeting audiences internationally. Its readers represent professionals working in all disciplines in the provision of children's services, from social care to health care, medicine to psychology, education, the police and probationary services, to solicitors and barristers. The journal is peer-reviewed to ensure the highest of standards.

Child Care in Practice intends to publish a Special Issue in April 2020 focusing on risk, assessment and decision-making. The primary aim of this Special Issue is to further develop practice, policy and academic insight into the issue of risk, assessment and decision-making in any area of children’s services. All manuscripts must therefore include these topics as their main focus.

Researchers, academics, practitioners, policy makers and other stakeholders that have an interest in this area, are welcome to submit original research or case studies. This special issue will also consider theoretical and conceptual articles based on a rigorous method that advances knowledge of the subject matter.

Papers must:

  1. Relate to the theme of risk, or assessment or decision-making in any area of children’s services.

  2. Demonstrate a high standard of theoretical exposition with a clear link to informing research, policy and practice developments in children’s services.

All papers of an appropriate standard for publication, will be published by the journal, either in the Special Issue, if selected by the editors for inclusion, or in a regular issue of the journal. Please note that papers must not at the same time, be submitted to any other journal.

The special issue would be guest edited by Brian Taylor, Professor of Social Work, Ulster University, and Paul McCafferty, Lecturer in Social Work, Queens University Belfast.
